About SSC
Stone Sailing Club exists to promote and facilitate amateur yacht racing and boat sailing, to provide opportunities for tuition and practice in the art of seamanship, and to provide social and other facilities for members.
Stone Sailing Club is managed by officers and committee (referred to jointly as "The Committee") elected by and from the membership of the Club in accordance with the Club rules to enable the Club to meet its objectives. The Committee meets regularly throughout the year and its remit includes planning sailing events, the social functions and maintenance of the premises and club property.
Racing is supported by volunteers on the bridge and in safety boats. In addition to the regular points series, the sailing season sees a number of ever popular trophy races, some of which have been competed for since the 1950's and are open to all club members. Stone Sailing Club also has a proud history of running well organised and well attended regattas, open meetings and national championships. Courses for open and national events are normally run from the club committee boat 'Jumar' and are held in the wider east end of the Blackwater estuary, towards Bradwell on Sea.
Over the years, Stone Sailing Club has produced many fine sailors, some of whom have gone on to be National, European and World champions, in many different classes. Starting at around the age of seven years, our cadet members currently learn to sail and race in Cadets, Toppers and Lasers and take part in regular training sessions. Adult members can choose from a huge variety of dinghies, catamarans, keelboats and windsurfers. We also have a large cruiser section, most of whom are moored just off of the sailing club.
Off the water, Stone Sailing Club has been run efficiently for many years, by our elected flag officers and committee members, some of whom have given over thirty years of loyal service to the club. Stone has a thriving and busy social calendar, the highlight of which is the Stone Week regatta, which takes place annually over a week in early August and features racing by day and all manner of social events and entertainment every evening. The cadet section has its own annual event earlier in the year.
Stone Sailing Club facilities include spacious and well appointed changing facilities, whose showers are the envy of many a visiting sailor! The clubhouse itself has two well stocked bars, the 'Wet Bar' on the ground floor, which as its name suggests, is able to be used whilst still wearing wet sailing gear. Upstairs on the lounge deck, is a large bar and seating area, which hosts many different social events and offers panoramic views over the Blackwater estuary. Catering is offered from the excellent Galley on the ground floor.
Stone Sailing Club is a modern, well organised club, which is both friendly and competitive. It is simply a great place to go sailing.
